History of antique jewellery:

During the early Victorian era, antique jewellery changed significantly, and the Romantic Movement was the last big step in that change. During this time, nature greatly impacted how metal was made. Flowers, buds, groups of grapes, leaves, snakes, and other things were used as designs. The use of ancient mourning jewellery persisted into the early nineteenth century.

1847: Louis-Francois Cartier, then 28 years old, took over his master’s jewellery shop at 31 Rue Montorgueil in Paris. He had learned the trade from a master watchmaker. In 1874, Cartier’s son Louis Alfred took over the business. In 1904 Louis Francois Cartier died. In 1899, Cartier moved its diamond store to Paris’s Rue de la Paix. 1851: The Great Exhibition was held at London’s Crystal Palace. This was a good chance for the antique jewellery business to get people interested and start making things. 1860: The antique necklace style changed, and styles from Greece, Etruria, and Egypt became popular. In March 1861, Queen Victoria’s mother died; in November 1861, her husband, Prince Albert, who was 42 years old, also died. The Queen spent the rest of her life in the darkest grief. All those who were sad had to wear black. Again, the style of antique jewellery changed, this time to jet, cut steel and Berlin iron. In the last stages of grief, jewellery made of tortoiseshell and ivory was worn. Cut Steel Antique jewellery was made from groups of small, polished, faceted studs fastened to a base plate. As cut steel became more common, necklaces, hair pins, chatelaine, bracelets, and buttons were made to meet the growing demand. Steel was cut in the small market town of Woodstock, which is north of the city of Oxford. Berlin Ironwork was made of hard, grey metal. The Royal Berlin Factory was a factory in Berlin that opened in 1804. Jewellery was only a small part of the total production, which ranged from small things like keys, bags, buckles, and boxes to huge things like gates, grills, barriers, and bridges. Jet is a type of brown coal. It is the fossilised wood of a tree that lived long ago.

Antique Gold vs. Gold Colour:

Antique gold is a collection of gold jewellery that is at least 100 years old, while gold colour is just the colour gold. The colour gold is like the colour of old jewellery, which is a rusty orange. The antique gold colour is made by mixing different alloys in different ways during processing. Indian antique jewellery is usually made of 22-carat gold, which makes it more expensive than yellow gold jewellery. The intricate artistry and unique patterns add to the cost of making them, which is why they are so costly.

How to take care of old jewellery:

Your old piece of jewellery must not get wet.If your old jewellery gets wet, take it to a jeweller to have the polish fixed;

Do not clean jewellery with an antique finish with water or any cleaner. This will wash the jewellery, wear down the shine, and ruin the finish. The best way to keep your old jewellery clean and safe is to store it in fabric-lined soft cloth cases or bags.
